Global Foundations and Early Engineering

Jimmy earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Kookmin University in Seoul. He began his career in 2006 as a mechanical system design engineer at Hyosung Heavy Industries, launching what would become a globally impactful trajectory. From design to operation, his roles evolved to encompass solution engineering for Transformer and GIS systems, asset management, and later, global coordination for STATCOM business.
The STATCOM Strategist
Between 2013 and 2019, Jimmy was part of our team leading Hyosung’s cutting-edge STATCOM initiatives—including first-of-their-kind deployments across Asia and Latin America. His hands-on experience in India during the country’s infrastructure overhaul after the 2012 blackout (affecting over 620 million people) shaped his strategic expertise and solidified his reputation as a solutions-driven collaborator.
In 2019, he relocated to the U.S. with his family, officially joining HICO America as Product Line Manager for STATCOM and HVDC. From Connecticut to Texas, he has spearheaded key STATCOM projects nationwide, transforming HICO’s role into an industry leader.
The People Person Behind the Power
Jimmy’s personality pulses through everything he does. Whether slalom skating in college or golfing with colleagues every Saturday, he brings connection to every conversation and
confidence to every challenge. Certified by both the PGA and USGTF, Jimmy turns leisure into leadership, using sport and small talk to strengthen bonds with global clients and internal
teams alike.
Even his approach to cultural differences is full of warmth and wisdom. “Communication and culture matter,” he advises. “They’re worth learning early if you want to grow professionally.”
